Armyworm Problem

Armyworms will eat every part of the grass blade—right down to just the beginning of the root, just leaving particles of chewed leaves. It is not uncommon for a collection of armyworms to destroy an entire lawn within a few days. As the armyworms feed, they leave brown patches in the lawn that can appear to look like heat, drought, or chemical stress.

The fall armyworm is the caterpillar of a moth that arrives in Georgia almost every year from Florida. Traveling via weather fronts, these moths spend the spring and summer traveling from south to north gradually infesting our entire state.
